Poet, translator, editor, New Testament and Gnostic scholar, four-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, and namesake of the Willis Barnstone Translation Prize. Barnstone, 87, has an intimate China connection: he first visited the country in 1972 during the Cultural Revolution before returning as a Fulbright professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University (1984-1985).
